Alas, the new friends that we met on our amazing journey through India and Nepal left Kathmandu one by one during the day. Fond farewells, best wishes and hope to see you agains swirled warmly around the lobby of our hotel. On our own! What now as we are used to the cocoon of our group and guide. Luckily, my daughter has developed the skills of a tour guide extraordinaire so armed with her well researched recommendations we set off to explore the markets of Kathmandu.

The Asan Market is on a legendary trade route through Kathmandu so has been one of the city’s main marketplaces since ancient times. It is a bustling places where we mingled with local shoppers before careening through the tiny streets on a bicycle rickshaw.
